Enterprise Resource Planning ERP Best Practices

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

If a company is buying ERP software, there are many things required to make ERP implementation a success. Implementation is slow process and the total time spends depends mostly on the participation of both - the vendor and the buyer. Sometimes, the complete process takes more than years to be fully functional and sometimes, the buyers are not ready to wait long.

The Main Concerns of ERP Implementation

To automate systems, the functioning of departments should be explicit: If the buyer of enterprise resource planning software is not following a proper method in its functioning, it may be difficult for the software to provide an appropriate solution.

Change in technology brings changes in functioning: There are many buyers who are not ready to change their way of functioning. Buyers should know that change in technology brings in change in many areas and to speed up processes, the functioning of certain activities should be changed.

Buyer should form a team specifically for implementation: Some buyers are not ready to spend time and resources on ERP implementation. Many buyers consider after spending money on buying hardware and software, their jobs is over. Basically implementation requires contribution of employee of the people working in the various department of the company. The project team should have people from all functional units of the company.

Transparency in processes is required: In the changing scenario, most of the organization should have transparency in its functioning as ERP implementation requires complete transparency in functioning of a company.

ERP Best Practices are:

1. Participation of the executives of the company in implementation and functioning of ERP is one of the best ERP practise.

2. Interactive sessions should be held to encourage communications over implementation and to define the needs for the new software.

3. The data conversion process and collection of valuable data prior to the implementation is also a good practise of ERP.

4. The business plan should be defined before the implementation process and the executives should be involved in defining the business plan.

5. People from each department of the company should be involved in defining the business plan of ERP.

6. A separate team including executives and staffs should be formed, which should be assigned tasks for implementation. The members of the team should be accountable for ensuring successful implementation. The everyday job of the members of the team should be re-assigned to others to prevent delay in project.

7. All employees who have to use ERP should be given training.

8. The organization should be ready to change it administration processes as per the requirement of the technology.

9. An accurate estimation of time and money spend on implementation cannot be made at the initial phases and the company buying the software should be aware of technical limitations of software and be ready to add more to the cost to get a successful ERP implementation.
