The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a life threatening problem which has a serious impact over all the spheres of life of not only an individual but also the mass. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is one of the main concerns of people who are fighting for human rights.
AIDS when affects even a single individual in the staff, tends to affect the productivity, health of the others and the working enthusiasm a lot. Moreover, due to the lack of knowledge about it, the workers do not show up.
This syndrome is far away from the classification of the caste, creed, religion or gender. It can happen to anyone. But when someone on the workplace acquires it, then there becomes a definite pattern which the disease can follow. HIV is seen to progress in the extremities, like extremely poor regions or those which are developing way too much speedily. Moreover, it is also found to be increasing rapidly in violent places. Those women, who have a lesser control of their lives as compared to the others, are more precarious to this situation.
People bear in their minds prejudices not for the disease, but for the person who carries the HIV tag. Rather than trying to eliminate the cause itself, people try to jeopardize the person carrying the virus. Discrimination is a notion that is always there with HIV, especially at the workplaces. Before getting recruited, people have to take a probe for HIV, and if they are found to be positive, they have to face a rejection.
The most basic step towards eradicating the problem will be to conduct programs in order to spread the word about the disease so that there are no prejudices. Workplace requires these kinds of awareness programs a lot. This will not only make people aware of how they treat their colleague, but also how to avoid getting assaulted by the disease. Even if one such program saves just a single man's life from being miserable, then it certainly means a lot. These programs, in one way or the other, aim at:
1. Deleting the line of difference between the sufferers and the safe.
2. Bringing a sense of non discrimination.
3. Improvement of the working conditions.
4. Making the environment endorsing.
5. Increasing the level of education among the workers.
6. Being just to those who have suffered the trauma once.
7. Bringing into light, how many vulnerable women are towards this disease.
The firms and the companies may apply these rules according to their needs and how frequently they need to conduct them, and what is the level of education among the people working over there. Workplace is not just developed for the sake of benefit for the organization, but also for the all round development of the human capabilities. If we put barriers in our way just due to a virus, then progress is way out of question.
Eventually, it will make a workplace which is not stood over the grounds of discrimination and those who carry the virus in their genes will not have to get smothered by people around in one way or the other.
