How to Manage Multiple Projects

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

People who seek more adventure in their working conditions tend to take more than one errand at a time. Working on more than one task and multitasking is fun that no single task can provide. Albeit, people many a times complaint about it. If you think that it is your choice and you have to go with it, then at a point of time it will be nothing else but burden for you. But at the same time handling only a single project will make you sit idle for a long duration in the office.

It is all about how you deal with the projects and what commitment you show towards all of them. Let us give you some tips about how to multitask without getting under the loads of mountains.

1. Never focus upon more than one project at a time. This, although contradicts to the very notion of multitasking, but has a broader sense of meaning. Giving a task a definite amount of time from your daily schedule makes the things easier. With the time span you allot to each task, it has to be made sure that there is no distraction that deters your focus from the work. A major distraction in the way of progress can be phone calls. Try to put aside the phone while working. You can keep a particular time for answering the calls in a single go.

2. Each task contains something new in it, and with every new thing striking the psyche the situation becomes more defying. So, it is better that you take breaks after few minutes rather than going on for hours and hours. Make sure that you do not take breaks very frequently or for a long time else it will itself become an obstacle.

3. After you are done with one errand and you are progressing to the next, make sure that the chapter of the previous one is completely closed and so are its documents lying on the work table. The very presence of the previous task's documents can distract you from your work. A list of do's and don'ts can come as handy. Envisaging your next steps is a good sign of managing things even when you are not physically doing them.

4. Make notes of things in the most clear and defining terms, like "send the mail to the new client", or "prepare the balance sheet for the yesteryear", and so on. But make sure that the time you allot to these tasks is fully adequate that it may include a minor erratic delay. Even if you are not able to complete the task completely before switching on to the next errand, then make sure that you leave it at such a position from where continuing further would not be a problem.

5. Make sure you end the project on a good note. Finishing up things in the way which makes a negative impression over the client you are working for isn't good for business. So it's better that the project ends timely and nicely.
