How to Select the Right ERP Software for Your Business

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Selecting right ERP software is the most important aspect for any business. It is true that the wrong ERP selection is the prime reason for its failure. While implementing such a robust application, it is necessary to work on selecting the right software. This article takes you through some crucial information you need to consider when start evaluating ERP software. If the customer doesn't select the suitable application, the implementation becomes fatal. So, the customer needs to take utmost care while evaluating the software application to rope-in the right software.

The selection process starts from understanding the requirements properly. It is the top management of the customer who needs to understand the requirements rather than the vendor or implementation service provider. If the top management of the customer does not understand, they cannot explain the vendor about the pain areas and potential growth areas.

It is very important to know about the requirements to probe the vendor regarding the features of the product or application. If you know end to end about your business environment, you can start asking about the questions to the vendor to evaluate the application in a perfect manner. Never be so hurry in the selection process. After all, you are planning to implement an application that is going to change the business environment entirely in a positive way.

Once you thoroughly understand about your requirements, spend some time on researching the market to find out the best vendors available in the market. The research will give enormous information on the vendors you shortlist in the first phase. The first phase would be totally dedicated to the market research to find at least three to four best vendors in the market.

In the second phase, you call each vendor separately to know the details on the applications they have been handling. You need to scrutinize and probe the vendor as good as possible to know about the software and how it can fit into the requirements. After the second phase, you will definitely comfortable with some of the applications and vendors that you evaluated. If you feel like two applications are good, ask them to show the demo of the software to know the structure and pattern or design of the software. This comes under the third phase.

In the forth phase, you need to ask the vendor to show the proof of the concept (POC). POC is nothing but running the application in your own environment with the real time data. If you run the application for a reasonable time, you will come to know the strengths and weaknesses of the software application. This is the phase where in you will zero in on the application. If you feel like the application is running successfully and is able to fulfill the business needs, you can unquestionably go with that ERP software.

This is the best and realistic method to select the right ERP software package. If you follow all the four phases, you can ensure getting the right application implemented.
