Negotiation Tips, Skills and Techniques

In this article I will focus on some tips for making negotiation efficient, confident and profitable. Negotiation is a fundamental need of business life. It is very important for any kind of business or deal. For better negotiation we should avoid negotiate word in the meeting or discussion. Negotiate word may create some resistance in the customers mind. In spite of negotiate word we can use phrases like "let us agree", "let's work things out", "you will be interested in this". Such phrases will make people more amenable to listening to the offer. In negotiation; settlement, arrangement, agreement and negotiation words will trigger the resistance.

Jot down the objectives that may have to be discussed during negotiations. Identify the customer behaviors. Customer can be flexible or non-negotiable. You can figure out the least amount for negotiation for both types of customer.

When a negotiating person is prepared with notes he or she will sound meaningful throughout the discussion. Nonsense conversation can break the deal or damage your image.

Negotiation is rooted from the want to eliminate extra, unnecessary and lack on both sides of the table. When negotiating one is actually moving towards and looking for a positive solution to the problems or in the process of suggesting alternatives to improve current standing.

Do some home works before going for a negotiation. This will protect you for any potential objections that might arise. Having alternatives in hands will lead towards a more positive and successful dialogue.

Make sure a certain level of comfort is maintained from both sides in the meeting. No one should feel like they are being pushed into the losing side of the business deal.

A negotiator should treat others professionally; because that is the only way you want them to treat you. Be responsive all the times. Express your willingness to work with them for a long time. Some talk about their hobbies, interests, history or even family and common friends. This will create some comfort level.
