Open Source ERP Software for SMEs

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

For years long, Enterprise Resource Planning software is only meant for the big and established companies. With the technological advancements in the market, even small and medium scale companies have started looking for the ERP software that can match their budgets.

Open Source ERP is one such software that largely caters the needs of small and medium scale companies. Most of the small scale companies have been now looking at implementing the open source enterprise resource planning software because of the some well known reasons. You can have a glimpse on some of the reasons why companies have been going after open source enterprise resource planning software.

Some years back, vendors started tapping the small scale market as most of the big companies have adopted the enterprise resource planning software. This situation created a lot of pressure on the development teams to come out with robust application for SME segment. This is where the open source ERP software came in to the market.

Open source ERP is application software that can be easily downloaded from the internet without much inherent cost. This made customers look at the open source enterprise resource planning. Most of the features in the open source enterprise resource planning are abridged versions of the robust enterprise resource planning. Some of the customers feel like using open source system as it is delivering results effectively in some core functions but some of the customers are reluctant to go ahead with the open source thinking that it will not fit into the requirements.

Most of the developing companies undergo a lot of changes in the business process time to time. The same thing is not possible with the large scale companies. Enterprise resource planning software that is implemented in the small and medium scale companies has to scale-up according to the changes in the business environment. Open Source ERP software can easily adapt for these changes. It is designed keeping this issue in mind. With this feature, open source enterprise software can fit into the market changes or the process changes in the company. Of course, the restructuring process in the SME would never be so much even though the business environment is changed in the company. If you look at the flexibility of the open source enterprise resource planning software, we can easily conclude that it can fit into the small and medium scale companies.

Open source ERP software can be managed very easily. If the customer faces any problem in the traditional enterprise resource planning software, he needs to wait till the vendor comes and rectifies the problem. But in the case of the open source ERP, the customer can easily rectify the problem without any help of the third party. Moreover the implementation cost of the open source ERP will not consume much time and money.

In a nutshell, Open source ERP can readily fit into the SME budget and effectively deals with the problems. It is very much flexible in nature so that the customer does not need to change the ERP in the course of changing the business process.
