ERP implementation has become necessity for most of the companies nowadays. Business owners came to know that implementing ERP application will no longer be delayed to reap the benefits. So, there is a gigantic demand for the ERP applications and mostly people prefer SAP to be implemented to streamline their business operations. Normally, if people think about Enterprise Resource Planning, they think about SAP. SAP has got such popularity because of its flexibility in terms of features and the scalability which fits according to the company growth.

This article provides some of the basic things you need to know about SAP installation.

The routine question from any programmer is this only. They first check for the minimum requirements to install the application. The first and foremost thing you need to know would be the minimum system requirements to install SAP application. Truly, SAP is client-server architecture software. Client-server means there would be a server on which the application will be running and the clients will be connected to the server. At the user end nothing but a user interface will be installed. The end user might be a laptop, desktop, or any other devise. The average RAM size at the user end would be about 1 GB or more than that. The server capability will depend on the number of the clients are running on the server.

Some of the brief descriptions on the Hardware and software requirements to install SAP are provided here. This specification is for SAP R/3 System Installation

Hardware Requirements

The processer must be Intel platinum III- 500 Mhz.
Hard Disk size should be at least 3o GB
The RAM size should be minimum 1 GB
You need to have Intel compatible Ethernet card and the CDROM for the installation.

Software Requirements

Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher version
Windows NT Server 4.0
Windows NT Service Pack 6.0
Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
SAP R/3 Kernel CD
- Active Directory Service Interface (ADSI)
- Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs)
- Microsoft Management Console (MMC)
SAP R/3 System
- Export CDs (3 CDs)
- Report Data CD
- SAP GUI

Use these requirements and follow the installation guide to finish the installation. Installation may take several hours to complete. The system requirement will depend on the application type. There are several types applications available in the SAP it self. One ERP application is purely designed to take care of the small and medium scale companies and other is designed to look after the large scale requirements. So, system requirements will vary from time to time and the type of the application.

Before the installation, you need to check out all these requirements because if your system does not support, the installation process will discontinue. Ensure you have a high configuration system to install SAP because it takes a lot of space for all the modules. Never run other application on the system where the SAP is installed because, there is a threat from virus attack. Keep it simple and follow guidelines to finish the installation successfully.
