Tips to Negotiate Your Salary with Employer

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

The best way to deal with the package is to check the package that is being offered by the company before you appear for the interview. If the situations are such that you are being asked a question what salary package you expect from us, at this point of time you can answer as per the market conditions and the designation being offered to you. Being patient, polite and respectful is of great importance in negotiating the salary with employers.

The first offer is based on several issues-budgets, internal salary bands and past salary drawn etc. They have already spent so much of time and efforts in interviewing and screening several people.

Some points which are to be kept in mind before interacting with the employer for the financial discussion:

1. Take Your Time: The employer will always want that the offer given is accepted soon. So, the offer must not be accepted immediately, this puts the person on the heavier side. The hiring employer will think that he may not loose that person to the other employer i.e. the competitors and may revise the offer so that they could make an end to the position soon.

2. Research Market Salaries: This is the best way of finding out whether the person is underpaid. And then market research reports can be shared with the employers if anyone feels that he is underpaid. Market research can be done by checking on the internet websites, research on salaries, which are conducted few days ago.

3. Maintain a Positive Attitude: Positive attitude must be maintained toward the job and the employer. Ensure about the opportunity and discussions must be conducted professionally. During the period of discussion, they must not think that they have engaged the wrong person. There are cases when the offer is being revoked by the employers.

4. Multiple Offers: If a person has the choice of multiple offers then he is on the top of the world. If the employer feels that the person is on demand he will treat him with respect. They will also not want to lose him so that he may join his competitor.

5. Know Your Bottom Line: The minimum salary, which a person is required, is the bottom line. Before spending much time and energy on landing the job, first the person has to figure out whether his needs are meeting by the salary offered or not.

6. Do Not Forget The Benefits: Until and unless the fringe benefits are discussed, the negotiation is not finished. Fringe benefits include insurance, pension and holiday etc. 15 to 28 percent of the salary can be added, by getting job perks. After all the discussions have been made the person engaged would get all the detailed summaries of the employment contract. Ensure that the results of the negotiations are with him to verify against the final contract.

By including several types of exempt allowances and reimbursements, you can lower the tax amount from the total salary.
